Final thoughts

Have faith in your abilities

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

Test taken: Economics Admissions Assessment (ECAA)
Number of interviews: 2
Time between interviews: 15 minutes
Length of interviews: 25 mins
Online interview: Yes

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

First interview: personal-statement related question on Brexit, asked to choose a topic within economics and had a 10 minute discussion on that and finally, a question on maths applied to market structures.

Second interview: article from The Economist on labour markets and had a 10 minute discussion on that, sketching and differentiating a function, and lastly a game theory question.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

Get on top of all content studied at school (especially Economics and Maths). Have weekly discussions with a peer applying for Economics as well. Use the following checklist: probability, game theory, discussion economics, calculus and mathematical economics. Read The Economist and make concise notes on a few good books.

If you took a test, how did you prepare?

Doing past papers from similar exams. Timing is very important so note your average time/question and try and improve that.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Have faith in your abilities and don’t judge interview performance from a retrospective mindset. Practice as much Maths as possible and remember cambridge is not the be-all-and-end-all, other universities are just as good!
