Final thoughts

Look after yourself during the long and difficult application process!

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

Test taken: Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT)
Number of interviews: 2
Time between interviews: 30-45 minutes
Length of interviews: 30 minutes
Online interview: Yes

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

Both interviews picked up on aspects of my personal statement. We talked through topics, graphs and information that they presented to me - I wasn't expected to know straight away, they worked through it with me. The most important thing is that you engage with them. One was more science based, the other slightly more medical ethics. The interviewers were friendly and helpful.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

I had a practice interview with the Head of Sixth form at my school, discussed potential interview topics with friends/family, looked over my year 12 work, and looked over my personal statement.

If you took a test, how did you prepare?

Official BMAT guide, past paper questions, past papers from official website, went through (on the BMAT website) the comprehensive list of things they expect you to know for each topic in the scientific knowledge section of the test.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Don’t be too hard on yourself! The Oxbridge application process (like all medicine applications) is really stressful so make sure to look after yourself as well.
