Final thoughts

Explain your thought process when responding to questions

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

Test taken: Biomedical Admissions Test (BMAT)

Number of interviews: 2

Skype interview: no

Time between interviews: 30 minutes

Length of first interview: 30 minutes; Length of second interview: 30 minutes

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

In the first interview, I was presented with a graph to try to explain. I was asked to suggest reasons for trends and I was guided through the discussion. The second interview involved a discussion of my personal statement, expanding on topics I had mentioned and seeking to expand my knowledge.

How did you prepare?

I read some books related to my subject, and studied an online course. I also did a mock interview.

What advice do you have for future applicants?

Looking back, what advice would you give to your past self?

I would advise interviewees to practice talking about your subject with teachers. Remember to think aloud during the interview! Suggest lots of different ideas and show that you can work with hints that the interviewers give you too. The interviewers will gradually give you clues to help you work out the answers, but you need to explain your thought process throughout.
