Mock interviews

Final thoughts

It was actually quite enjoyable

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

Interview Format

I Had two interviews, the first in physics where I was interviewed by two professors then a chemistry interview with a single interviewer. Each lasted approximately 30 minutes.

Beforehand and between my interviews I waited in the buttery with other applicants and current student helpers who were very helpful and walked me to and from my interviews so applicants wouldn't get lost.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

In the physics interview I had a quick question on my personal statement then two physics based problems to work through. Chemistry was a problem that progressed as I was asked more and more questions about some organic molecules that pushed beyond the scope of a level. On the whole the interviews were less challenging than I expected and the interviewers put me at ease.

How did you prepare?

My school organised mock interviews.

Looking back, what advice would you give to your past self?

I actually found it quite an enjoyable experience.
