Final thoughts

Think through the question slowly. "Question the question".

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

I walked into the room and the interviewer was super welcoming and friendly She started out mostly asking about the reasons I wanted to study theology at Cambridge, and she referred to my personal statement a lot and asked me to explain what I meant by certain sentences. I talked about my experiences doing research work in school and also my interests in the subject!  The interviewer was really nice throughout and she was very responsive so it was easy to take cues from her!

How did you prepare for your interviews?

I read loads of books, especially the ones I’d mentioned in my personal statement.

I also tried to think through all the more personal questions, like the reasons I chose the subject and college.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

My advice would be to think through each question slowly.

For the more personal questions try and have a consistent narrative behind your choices.

For the questions tackling specific areas within your subject try and think out of the box and question the question.
