Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

My interviews were online. My first one was for the college I applied to and overall it was really nice and quite fun. The atmosphere was relaxed as both my interviewers were together in the same room and smiley and friendly. The first half of the interview was anthropology and the second was archaeology. For the anthropology part, we just talked about my school from an anthropological point of view, how I would go about studying people and what different social groups I thought there were etc. It was a really interesting discussion. For the archaeology one, I was shown an illustration and asked to say what I noticed about it so I picked up on different aspects of the illustration and just said things that interested me or ideas I had. My second interview was more serious. I first had to look at a picture of lots of artefacts and discuss them in relation to a question. I was also asked about a cave I visited that I mentioned in my personal statement. For the anthropology side, I had to discuss a quote. Even though I didn't enjoy the interview, it didn't matter too much though as it was over in half an hour and the interviewers, though a bit scary, were still very nice.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

I did two practice interviews, one with a teacher and one with my brother and these were really helpful as they helped me see how to answer questions and formulate ideas. As the subject I was applying to was one I hadn't studied before I didn't worry too much about learning any knowledge but I made sure that I would be able to talk about contemporary topics (e.g returning the Elgin marbles) and I also went to a few museum exhibitions so I'd be able to talk about that and show my interest.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

Talk through you're thought process out loud, share ideas and just try to have fun and view it as a chance to have an interesting discussion
