Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

I took my portfolio and gave them some time for the interviewers to look through it beforehand. Once it started they asked me about my motivation behind specific artworks, and some more general questions about some other bits of my art practice. They were nice and welcoming, not that critical. They asked if I had considered working in other media, and what artists had influenced me.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

I asked my art teachers to ask me some example questions about my work, this was the most helpful. I anxiously tried to leaf through some academic art writing but that didn't really help much - no need to name drop, just get used to talking about your art and explaining your own ideas.

What advice would you give to future applicants?

It sounds stupid but try to find a way to relax. The interviewers are much kinder than you think and they are not going to critique you or grill you. Also take the opportunity to meet some other students and make friends!
