Final thoughts

Build on what you know.

Remember this advice isn't official. There is no guarantee it will reflect your experience because university applications can change between years. Check the official Cambridge and Oxford websites for more accurate information on this year's application format and the required tests.

Also, someone else's experience may not reflect your own. Most interviews are more like conversations than tests and like, any conversation, they are quite interactive.

What happened in your interview? How did you feel?

They asked me a couple of questions about my interests, before turning to discussing the pre-reading I had been given: a short extract from a piece of music, and a journal article.

How did you prepare for your interviews?

Mostly, I read books. Checking the Oxford reading list was really important. By reading some key texts, I was able to be quite prepared for some challenging ideas raised in interviews!

What advice would you give to future applicants?

My main advice would be to build on what you know. If the topic of an article is totally new to you, but a paragraph reminds you of something you've read or listened to: then talk about that!
